Robert Avery's 15mm Legendary Greeks
|
My Legendary Greek army consists of my Vis Bellica Greek Hoplite force with fantasy additions: a total of just over 1,000 points. As the Greeks are already up on the Vis Bellica site, what you'll find below are pictures of the "legendary" elements of the army. As the patron of Viseos is the God Poseidon, he is commander-in-chief: able to command from a position of some authority (being a God!) and to wield Water Magic with devastating effect! The core of the army are the troops from the legendary Greek city of Viseos: hoplites and javelinmen, with the odd Cretan or Rhodean mercenary skirmisher. In keeping with the fragmented nature of Greek society at this time, the rest of the army comprises brigades of allies from a particular legendary race (centaurs, minotaurs, Cyclops) with various heroes and mythical beasts thrown in for good measure: Achilles, still in his Bronze Age armour; the Hydra; Medusa; the Chimera; the Etrimenean Boar. A flying brigade consists of some pegasus-mounted cavalry and harpies. The figures used come from all over the place. Demonworld provided the minotaurs, centaurs, harpies and the pegasus-horses (their mounts are converted Xyston Greek cavalry). The Hyrdra and Chimera are Alternative Armies (the Hydra is particularly nice). The rest are mostly 28mm figures that fit into the game due to the legendary natures of what they represent. The army is great fun to play: consisting as it does of a core of standard, "mortal" troops backed up by a hefty wedge of unusual supernatural support. The Hydra and Medusa have proved especially effective, although the centaurs have proved a poor substitute for proper cavalry. Click on the thumbnail to see the full size image: |
